Davidson College seeks a collaborative and enthusiastic Research and Academic Engagement Librarian to join our library.  The librarian works with colleagues and students to foster creative and intellectual collaboration with the academic and co-curricular life of the college and to generate engagement with the library’s collections, staff, and services.  The person in this position develops programing to promote student and faculty scholarship, cultivates relationships with faculty, students, staff, and community members to encourage collaborative partnerships, and co-manages the library’s social media presence.  As a member of the Research, Learning, and Scholarly Communication team, this librarian also provides research and instructional support to students, engages in liaison activities with faculty, and leads the library’s peer tutor program.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Outreach and Collaboration

    • Oversee a wide range of communications aimed at increasing awareness of library resources, services, and programming.

    • Create and deliver innovative programming that enhances the library’s role in student learning, faculty and staff initiatives, and campus scholarship.

    • Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff, including those in the Center for Teaching and Learning and in Technology & Innovation, in support of campus teaching and student-centered learning.

    • Assess the impact of the library’s programming and outreach activities.

  • Peer Tutor & Student Ambassador Programs

    • Coordinate the library’s peer tutor program, in collaboration with other library staff and instructional technologists.

    • Co-lead the student library ambassador program.

  • Research and Instruction

    • Deliver instruction tied to curricular and co-curricular initiatives, including research consultations; course-integrated instruction sessions; online tutorials and research guides; and Center for Teaching and Learning workshops.

    • Provide training to faculty and students on using digital tools and techniques to enhance their research and to improve teaching and learning.  Collaborate with campus partners to identify, implement, and promote digital initiatives.

  • Liaison

    • Serve as a subject liaison to assigned academic departments. Build strong relationships and learn about developments in assigned disciplines.  Actively communicate with department faculty about resources and participate in departmental collections-related projects. Consult with faculty and library colleagues to help the library better meet departmental needs.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media, leading community outreach, and developing programming activities.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and partners on- and off-campus.

  • Knowledge of current developments in information fluency, instructional design, digital initiatives, and assessment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
