Davidson College seeks a Research Librarian for Data and Digital Scholarship to join our library.  This librarian partners with staff, faculty, and students to foster research across the disciplines and to support data services.  The person in this position increases the visibility, usability, and analysis of digital scholarship and data resources, facilitates research management, and educates the community about intellectual property rights for authors and creators. As a member of the Research, Learning, and Scholarly Communication team, this librarian also provides instructional support to students and engages in liaison activities with faculty.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Data and Digital Scholarship

    • Collaborate with campus partners - including the Davidson Research Initiative, the Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation, the Center for Teaching & Learning, the Center for Civic Engagement, and the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies - to foster student and faculty research across the disciplines, promote community-engaged research methodologies, and connect the community with digital scholarship.

    • Partner with faculty, staff, and community members to encourage the use of emerging research practices and the creation of new forms of scholarship.

    • In collaboration with the library’s Scholarly Communication Working group, develop and implement educational programs on data management, open access, author and creator rights, and copyright.

    • Participates in the planning, implementation, and ongoing development of digital repositories and other digital collections.

  • Research and Instruction

    • Deliver instruction tied to curricular and co-curricular initiatives, including research consultations; course-integrated instruction sessions; online tutorials and research guides; and campus workshops.

    • Provide training to faculty and students on using data and digital tools and techniques to enhance their research and to improve teaching and learning.

    • Collaborate with campus partners to identify, implement, and promote digital initiatives.

  • Liaison

    • Serve as a subject liaison to assigned academic departments. Build strong relationships and learn about developments in assigned disciplines.  Actively communicate with department faculty about resources and participate in departmental collections-related projects. Consult with faculty and library colleagues to help the library better meet departmental needs.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.

  • Experience providing excellent reference and instruction services, particularly with data.

  • Familiarity with United States copyright and author-publisher contract law.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and partners on- and off-campus.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with digital repositories.

  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools.

  • Experience working in a law library and/or doing substantial legal research.
