The Department of Anthropology at Davidson College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Archaeology. The geographic area is open to Latin America and/or Mesoamerica, with preference for applicants with methodological specialization in remote sensing and geospatial analysis. We especially encourage applicants who focus on environmental archaeology. Applicants should have an active research agenda with the potential to incorporate undergraduate participation and research. The department emphasizes a four-field approach to the discipline, so a successful candidate should also have a research agenda that broadly complements current departmental offerings. Courses to be taught include introductory courses in archaeology, archaeological methods in GIS as well as upper-level undergraduate courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The course load is five-courses per year. These course offerings will also support Davidson’s Latin American Studies and Environmental Studies departments. Applicants must have a PhD in Anthropology by July 1, 2019.

Candidates should outline in their teaching statement how their philosophy and/or experience fulfills the needs of a diverse student body through inclusive pedagogy. The research statement should demonstrate how their research in archaeology contributes to insights into diversity. Upon request, candidates should also arrange for the submission of three letters of reference. The application deadline is March 5, 2019.
