Title IX Coordinator/Section 504 Coordinator and Compliance Officer

The Title IX Coordinator/Section 504 Coordinator & Compliance Officer will coordinate institutional processes to ensure compliance in areas of federal civil rights such as Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended in 2008, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Clery Act, Title VI, and Title VII, in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office, Human Resources, and Campus Police/Campus Safety, and other administrative offices and institutional leaders. This position will also serve a key role in coordinating bias response efforts.


Primary responsibility for ensuring that college policies and procedures comply with Title IX, ADA and Section 504.  Serve as a consultant to other campus departments on compliance with VAWA, the Clery Act, Title VI, Title VII, and other federal civil rights laws and regulations: 

  • Maintain awareness of current and future federal and state regulations and compliance standards related to accessibility and civil rights.  Provide training or updates to leaders, collaborative partners and key constituents. 
  • Establish open channels of communication and effective partnerships with offices involved in direct service to employees and students, including, for example, the Office of Academic Access and Disability Services, the student Center for Diversity & Inclusion, Human Resources, and Campus Police & Public Safety. 

Serve as the institution’s Title IX Coordinator: 

  • Oversee processes for receiving and resolving complaints of sexual and interpersonal violence. Effectively manage cases in compliance with Title IX and Clery requirements.  Collaborate effectively with Dean of Students Office on Student Handbook policies and Title IX processes, and with Human Resources on Employee Guide policies and processes. 
  • Advise Title IX complainants, respondents, support people and/or other third parties about reporting options, institutional resources, interim measures, and supports available at the College and in the community.
  • Recruit, train and oversee a team of trained Title IX investigators.  Oversee external investigators as appropriate. Assign student sexual misconduct cases to investigators and ensure all investigations are conducted in compliance with best practices.
  • Provide assistance and support to college programs responsible for responding to complaints of sexual and interpersonal violence.
  • Train College employees to respond appropriately to reported incidents of sexual or interpersonal violence.
  • Convene deputy Title IX coordinators for regular meetings.
  • Prepare statistical reports and provide accurate information on complaints of sexual and interpersonal violence for the college’s Annual Security Report.

Serve as the institution’s ADA/Rehabilitation Act Coordinator:

  • Provide information and assistance to those who wish to raise a complaint or have concerns relating to the college’s compliance with the ADA and/or related local, state, and federal laws
  • Facilitate the college’s compliance with disability laws and regulations, including responding promptly and effectively to each complaint
  • Provide assistance and support to college programs responsible for delivering reasonable accommodations to, students, and members of the public, including assistance and support on universal design and other specific inclusion initiatives, upon request. 
  • Where appropriate, respond to or conduct an investigation of complaints. Serve as consultant to Human Resources department on ADA compliance issues for employees

Participate in bias response efforts for incidents of alleged harassment of or discrimination against employees or students.  Collaborate with Human Resources, Student Life staff or other campus leaders on response efforts and initiate and lead response efforts and protocols as necessary. 



  • Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree preferred. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state laws and regulations.  
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in a related field with at least two years recent experience conducting employment or education/student discrimination, harassment, and retaliation investigations or related litigation.
  • Previous work experience in higher education. 
  • Professional training in the area of discrimination and harassment law (such as Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.), which can be gained by completion of an advanced course of study offered by a nationally recognized organization, and/or specialized experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices as they relate to institutions of higher education compliance with Title IX.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, analyze, and evaluate facts, evidence, data and other information in order to draw reasonable and fair conclusions and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and to handle sensitive subject-matter objectively and with sensitivity and discretion.
  • A high degree of judgment, as well as excellent interpersonal and written communication  skills and problem-solving and reasoning skills, including the ability to work effectively with individuals from underrepresented groups with understanding and sensitivity to experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects effectively. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office. 
  • Ability to manage multiple, on-going and complex caseloads of Title IX related incidents and complaints


  • Demonstrated experience or training on federal civil rights policy or policies. 
  • J.D. or Master’s Degree in related field.
