Davidson College Dining Services is hiring a Baker (Cook 1) to produce baked goods for the various dining facilities on campus. This is a full-time 12-month hourly position which is eligible for normal benefit programs.
Basic Function: Assist bake shop in producing baked goods for our board plan at Vail Commons, the Davis Cafe and Much Ado Catering.
Essential Functions: Prepare baked and cooked items according to standard recipes provided by supervisory staff; responsible for utilization of leftover product and or ensure proper storage and refrigeration
Perform clean-up of kitchen, utensils and appliances; assist with proper storage of foods according to health code policy.
Responsible for helping with recycling efforts as required by the department and the college.
Knowledge of safe food handling practices and ensure compliance of state health guidelines.
Assist with food set-up for daily and catered events.
To assist in other areas of the kitchen such as hot food preparation, pantry, and catering if needed.
Required Qualifications: Must have minimum 3 years baking experience that includes scratch baking and dessert decorating skills. Knowledge of safe food handling practices and ensure compliance of state health guidelines.
Prefer 2 year degree from a culinary school.
Additional Duties: Other duties assigned by the Executive Chef and Bakeshop Supervisor.
Reports to: Executive Chef and Bakeshop Supervisor
Working Conditions: Work in industrial kitchen with heavy equipment; sharp utensils and cutlery; steam tables and ovens; requires ability to lift 20-50 pounds. Area may be steamy and hot with exposure to cold storage.
