Davidson College seeks a Director for the Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (the “Hurt Hub@Davidson”).  The Hurt Hub@Davidson is a world-class collaborative space that connects Davidson College students and faculty with entrepreneurs, companies, and community partners.  The Hurt Hub@Davidson opened in 2018 and now has close to 150 co-working community members and engages hundreds of students through its many and diverse program offerings.  The Director will help Davidson College continue to grow the offerings of the Hurt Hub@Davidson by building external relationships and partnerships, in keeping with the Hurt Hub@Davidson’s mission and vision. 

The mission of the Hurt Hub@Davidson is to convene students, faculty, staff, alumni, entrepreneurs, industry leaders and our local community in a world-class collaborative space. Leveraging Davidson College’s unique scholarly and creative strengths, The Hurt Hub@Davidson catalyzes innovative solutions to critical problems, through ethical technology, high-quality programs, and unique partnerships.  Our vision is to be the leading collaborative hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in the greater Charlotte region that fosters education, creativity, new ventures, and economic development.

The Director provides strategic leadership for the HurtHub@Davidson.  Responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Serve as the chief executive officer of the HurtHub@Davidson with responsibility and oversight for all operations:
    • Oversee business operations including coworking and facility rentals
    • Oversee the program and facility budgets, budget forecasting, and financial planning
    • Supervise the work of four staff members
    • Ensure consistent program execution and effective collaboration with LaunchLKN and other key partners at the HurtHub@Davidson
  • Develop strategic goals and ensure execution of performance metrics:
    • Collaborate with LaunchLKN and other key partners at the HurtHub@Davidson on development of annual goals and performance metrics
    • Engage members of the Advisory Board and other interested alumni and community members to inform the strategic direction of the HurtHub@Davidson and execution on goals
    • Work closely with the Faculty Director to ensure alignment with the academic mission and programs   
  • Build external relationships with new and existing partners:
    • Identify, cultivate, develop, define, and close business relationships
    • Develop strategic partnerships and joint ventures that serve students and faculty across disciplines  
    • Curate a diverse entrepreneurial and professional community based in our physical space
  • Work collaboratively with the college’s development team and corporate engagement team to help fundraise through private philanthropy and corporate sponsorships:
    • Identify potential donors and sponsors; initiate conversation and cultivation
    • Secure corporate sponsorships to support operations for The Hurt Hub@Davidson
  •  Lead brand, marketing, and communications work
    • Oversee development of marketing materials
    • Supervise the Hurt Hub@Davidson website, ensuring content is regularly updated

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of relevant work experience
  • Experience managing employees
  • Experience managing budgets   

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree and a minimum of ten years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working with institutions of higher education
  • Experience reviewing and developing written agreements with business partners
  • Fundraising experience
