The Davis Café Cashier is responsible for cash register operation, stocking and customer service in a college retail dining unit. The Davis Café is a quick service meal option serving students, faculty, staff, and guests and is open 7 days per week from 7:30am-midnight during the academic year. During the summer, the Café is only open for lunch Monday through Friday, so work may not be available in the unit, but other campus work opportunities may be offered. The Cashier position does require some cash register operation experience due to our fast pace and high volume.
This is a 9 month, 40 hours per week position with work guaranteed only during the academic year (mid-August through mid-May). Some summer jobs are available at the college but must be applied for each year. Summer hiring is subject to departmental approval. This is a benefitted position offering access to medical, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation and sick time accrual, and holiday pay.
Responsibilities
Cash Register Operation - Operate cash register during service. Process cash, credit cards, and meal plan transactions with speed and accuracy.
Communication - Responsible for communicating on a regular basis any inconsistencies within the unit or as it relates to operational performance to the supervisor. On-going feedback with the supervisor to eliminate mistakes and improve efficiency of operational procedures. Must relay scheduling conflicts, call offs in a timely manner, and any issues that are interfering with personal performance.
Policies and Procedures/Special Projects - Commitment and adherence to all policies and procedures from our handbook in Dining Services and Davidson College. Any special projects assigned by the unit supervisor. Adherence to all safety policies and procedures of Davidson College and the local, state, and national authorities.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma (Experience may be accepted in lieu of education requirement).
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of proper cooking techniques/methods, ability to operate kitchen equipment efficiently.
Vocational or technical training in Culinary Arts, knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures in food service. Knowledge of at least 2 major cooking areas is preferred.
An outgoing personality and friendly approachable demeanor are strongly desired in our Cashiers. Cashiers must be able to work independently while managing their tasks effectively with little direct supervision.
