The Director of the Chidsey Leadership Program is a professional position within the Division of Student Life reporting to an Associate Dean through the Dean of Students Office.    

The Director of the Chidsey Leadership Program is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of the fellows’ curriculum.   Made possible through a generous donation by John ’83 and Lisa Chidsey ‘83, the Fellows program brings together 48 students to expand their capacity for leadership, learn from one another, and to apply their learning at Davidson and beyond.  Students are engaged in an experienced-based curriculum that builds self-awareness, increases student abilities to address complex problems, builds meaningful relationships, and encourages action.   In addition, the director:

  • Coordinates the semi-annual leadership lecture that features alumni and community leaders who share insights about leadership with the broader community. 
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key program partners including the donor and community/alumni participants included in the curriculum for various programs, College Relations & Alumni Affairs.  
  • Regularly convenes and provides logistical support to a team of leadership development professionals across campus who collaboratively deliver the EMERGE! leadership development program.   Emerge is am open-access, foundational leadership opportunity for students. The program consists of seven workshops that build leadership capacity and skill.
  • Manages the program budget.
  • Supervises the Assistant Director for Leadership Development; a shared position with the Center for Civic Engagement. 
  • Engages in other student leadership development projects as assigned by the Associate Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:             

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of a BA degree
  • At least 5 years of leadership development experience in a college or related leadership development setting including in the nonprofit and for profit sector
  • Have proven leadership in program development, implementation, management and assessment
  • Demonstrated understanding of and passion for educating college students
  • Strong collaboration, networking and marketing skills

Preferred Qualifications include:              

  • A Master’s Degree in college student personnel, organizational or behavioral science, business administration or a related degree
  • Familiarity and experience with college-level teaching in a highly-selective college environment
  • Knowledge of leadership theory and reflective pedagogy and an ability to teach to multiple constituents

The position requires regular evening and weekend commitments.
