Our purpose is to help you grow your talent and skills, while you help us solve technology problems for the college. We are seeking a class of 2019 or 2020 graduate to join our team as a Digital Transformation Fellow. T&I’s Digital Transformation Team (Dx) is a small group of people whose problem solving skills help to deliver Davidson’s most important technology projects. This Fellowship is for one year only.


We provide extra hands, a diverse skill set, and an outside perspective to select technology projects. We also try to make life easier for our colleagues by automating and streamlining the things that bog them down and prevent them from doing the important work they’d rather be focusing on. Working alongside his or her IT colleagues, that is exactly what the Digital Transformation Fellow will learn to do.


A successful candidate for this position could come from many different technical and educational backgrounds, but fundamentally is a strong problem-solver who can learn how to build better processes and experiences for others using technology. 


A successful candidate is not necessarily one who has already mastered or even been exposed to the duties described below. Rather, a successful candidate is someone with exposure to many disciplines (technological or otherwise); someone who possesses a strong problem solving mindset and a self-directed learning philosophy. These traits will allow the candidate to flourish in the Dx Fellow role, and cultivate a modern skill set that will help you in your future career or graduate study.

As a Davidson Fellow working on a close-knit team with other technology professionals, you’ll get the support and training you need to grow and be successful.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • As a recent graduate, advocate for student needs and perspectives in projects or technology decisions that affect the student body.

  • Collaborate with Digital Transformation team members and other T&I colleagues in large IT automation and modernization projects and initiatives.

  • Learn and assist in the implementation of IT systems as part of larger strategic IT projects (e.g. improving student communication, hardening account security, automating CatCard access provisioning, and facilitating citizen development).

  • Help to analyze, document, and propose improvements to business processes around how Davidson College works, especially, especially those that span multiple administrative and academic departments.

  • Develop documentation and training in collaboration with the peers and colleagues who will ultimately assume responsibility for the work product of each project .

  • Develop automations for data exchange between systems.

    • You’ll learn how to build small APIs and microservices, by leveraging Davidson’s integration platform solution, and by creating scripts in JavaScript, Python, or your language of choice.

    • If you know something about these technologies already, it’s a plus, but you can also learn in this fellowship.

  • Share innovative and effective IT practices within Davidson, and where possible, the broader liberal arts and higher education community.

What does this look like in practice?

Here are some things the Dx Team has worked on recently:

  • Automating content migration from the old Davidson website to the new Drupal content management system, including pages, persons, and events.

  • Integrating Davidson’s legacy campus card systems with a cloud-based access management portal, and building a business process to automate physical access provisioning for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Creating a self-service portal for Duo 2-factor authentication enrollment.

  • Automating phone service provisioning for Davidson employees.

  • Researching, selecting, and implementing a low code platform to replace legacy web forms and paper processes for departments all over campus.

  • Here’s what we’re working on next:

    • Piloting a new student portal and Davidson mobile app solution.

    • Converting all legacy web forms from ASP.NET to a new low code solution.

    • Exploring alternatives to Dropbox, including migration tools on the market that would make the transition as seamless as possible.

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Bachelor’s degree.

    • Excellent problem solving and analytic capabilities with the ability to present complex ideas in a straightforward and understandable manner.

    • Excellent communication skills, allowing the Dx Fellow to interface comfortably with colleagues and constituents inside and outside of Davidson T&I.

    • Project and time management skills, with ability to effectively manage competing priorities.

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • One or more years of relevant experience (student employment, coursework, or self-taught) in any Information Technology or Computer Science discipline.

    • Knowledge of the inner workings of academic and administrative departments, including the processes and players that keep an institution humming.

    • A strong eye for UX, and a strong desire to create intuitive and useful products and processes.
