Technology & Innovation (T&I) is proud to be an integral part of the Davidson College community, providing invaluable expertise and guidance in the stewardship of the college’s information technology environment securely and reliably—from data centers and networks to personal computers and desktop applications. Our work is guided by the following values:

At Davidson College, we believe the college grows stronger by recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty and staff committed to building an inclusive community.  In order to achieve and sustain educational excellence, we seek to hire talented faculty and staff across the intersections of diverse races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, ages, socio-economic backgrounds, political perspectives, abilities, cultures, and national origins.

Who You Are

You are a talented and experienced tech-oriented person who enjoys building tools that deliver insights and knowledge from data.  Thanks to your experience, you are fluent in multiple database languages and; let’s be honest, you likely have your favorite. You have worked in a collaborative enterprise IT setting and are comfortable with source control, development lifecycles, and sprint-based planning and execution. You are able to work independently and as part of a team. Finally, you communicate with people in a direct, honest, and clear manner.

What You Will Do

  • Migrate source code from an  Oracle database to a SQL Server database in support of a catalog of reports.
  • Refactor SSRS reports as necessary in Visual Studio to upgrade them to new SQL Server data sources.
  • Integrate these changes into our source control system (Azure DevOps)
  • Test and document your results
  • Communicate with business stakeholders and technical lead to gather requirements and perform further testing
  • Identify gaps in the target database that prevent reports from being migrated and work with the team to identify new features required to fill those gaps

What You Bring To The Role

  • Relevant work experience during which you were learning and using business intelligence and data management skills as part of your role.
  • Proficiency in both PL/SQL and T-SQL development, including implementation of tables, views, functions, procedures, and packages in Oracle and tables, views, and stored procedures in SQL Server
  • Experience developing paginated reports in SSRS against SQL Server databases
  • Experience working with a source control system (Git, Azure DevOps, Team Foundation Server, etc.)
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude when presented with challenges
  • Interest in aligning with our core values
