The Communication Studies department at Davidson College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialization in rhetorical studies who has both a strong commitment to interdisciplinary undergraduate education and an active research agenda. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in areas that would support our existing curriculum by teaching courses such as Principles of Oral Communication, Rhetorical Criticism, and Rhetorics of Justice and Equality, and also broaden our curriculum by teaching courses such as critical/cultural, diasporic, decolonial, transnational, critical race, intersectional, queer, and/or feminist rhetorics and theories. The successful candidate’s primary teaching responsibility will be in the Communication Studies department and the teaching load is five courses per academic year, with a one-course reduction in the first tenure-track year. The candidate would be expected to offer a course within their expertise that could contribute to the interdisciplinary Writing Program or Humanities Program. Candidates whose research agenda demonstrates the potential to connect with other interdisciplinary programs are encouraged to apply. The candidate’s Ph.D. in Communication Studies with a specialty in rhetorical studies should be completed by July 1, 2021. The candidate will participate in departmental and college service, such as advising senior research projects and serving on committees. Candidates should possess demonstrated teaching ability, outstanding academic qualifications, and an active research program.
