The Office of Alumni and Family Engagement in the division of College Relations seeks applications for an assistant director who, with a commitment to antiracism, will devise strategies and develop opportunities to strengthen alumni engagement and deepen an affinity for the college with a focus on young alumni and students. This position executes alumni communications and marketing plans, recruits, trains, manages and stewards alumni volunteers, executes alumni programs and events as appropriate and works with students, faculty and staff in the creation and implementation of these strategies. All responsibilities of this position must reflect the College Relations values of Goal-oriented, Resiliency, Excellence, Antiracist and Teamwork (G.R.E.A.T). This position reports to the associate director of Alumni and Family Engagement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive and inclusive student and young alumni engagement plan to include in-person and virtual events, programs, volunteerism and initiatives aimed at connecting our most recent graduates with the college, building on successful student engagement.
  • Work closely with the Fund for Davidson team to facilitate volunteer opportunities and programs designed to build connections between students and alumni that will strengthen lifelong engagement and encourage a mutually beneficial and shared investment in the college.
  • Oversee and support several groups of alumni and student volunteers including chapter leadership.
  • Execute inclusive alumni communications and marketing plans including email, website, text messaging, and social media.
  • Manage the Office of Alumni and Family Engagement Instagram account and play an active role in the overall social media strategy for the office.
  • Provide support and oversight to young alumni classes for Reunion Weekend.
  • Assist associate director with general alumni and family engagement efforts related to data and assessment, career networking, and digital engagement.
  • Serve as the Alumni and Family Engagement liaison to the Dean of Students, the Department of Athletics, and the Davidson Athletic Fund.
  • Take an active role in Alumni and Family Engagement team responsibilities including budget management, program assessment, fundraising efforts, alumni data management, assistance with the Alumni Association Board, help with Reunion Weekend, and participation in the AFE antiracism working group.
  • Participate in College Relations activities including divisional meetings, professional development, and planning retreats.

Physical /Environmental Demands:

Typically, this position takes place in an office environment. Currently, the position is operating remotely full-time until further notice. Ability to spend days working primarily at a desk while manipulating a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other typical office equipment is required. Work hours fall between 8:30-5:00pm. This position can expect regular travel to alumni events around the country when it is safe to do so. Most trips are two days and require one overnight; some multiple-city trips require more time. Some trips may be scheduled on short notice. Some night and evening on campus or virtual work is required, engaging in direct and close communication with alumni and friends of the college.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to antiracist engagement efforts 
  • Strong desire and ability to work effectively with persons from diverse generational, religious, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivation and the ability to manage a high volume of projects with competing deadlines
  • Comfort in a Web-based software environment, proficiency in basic Microsoft programs (such as Excel and Word) and the willingness and ability to learn new software platforms
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of and experience with social media with an understanding of its role in community-building

 Desired Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in higher education, alumni and/or constituent relations, volunteer management, public relations, event planning, nonprofit administration and/or related fields.
  • Experience managing volunteers and an understanding of the volunteer pipeline
  • Flexibility and adaptability, especially in working collaboratively as part of a team
  • High degree of personal initiative
  • Superior attention to detail while also understanding big-picture program development
  • Understanding of Davidson College and an appreciation of the liberal arts experience
