Health Education Associate

The Health Education program has an opening for the position of Health Education Associate. The Health Education Associate will assist the Health Educator with all outreach program planning and implementation. Individuals who are passionate about Health Education and the program goals of a reduction in sexual violence and alcohol abuse on campus should apply. This position allows for opportunities to plan and implement innovative programs. This is a regular, full-time, three-year appointment. The position is salaried and paid by direct deposit to the financial institution of the applicant's choice.

The applicant will join the Center for Student Health and Well-Being, which upholds the health and safety of the student body with the highest standard of care.

The Health Education Associate will assist the Green Dot leadership team with the training and the coordination of our bystander program, Green Dot, and all related programming, such as Social Norms campaigns, recruitment, etc. This position will also help centralize programming on campus from other departments and student groups, including Greek Life organizations, who are working to reduce sexual violence and abusive substance use on campus.

This position will work closely with all of the Health Education first-year Orientation programs (A Community of Respect, Davidson Close-Up online courses on alcohol and drugs and sexual health and sexual misconduct) and with the training and coordination of all first-year hall presentations. The Health Education Associate will assist in the training of all student volunteers in the Health Adviser program and follow up with their programming initiatives, as well as with other student organizations advised by Health Education.

Alcohol education is an integral part of all of the outreach programs coming from the Health Education Center. A good sense of the campus culture around substance use and outreach programming and messaging is important.

The Health Education Associate will also collaborate with other members of the Center for Student Health and Well-Being and with other departments within the Student Life Division as well as with the Title IX Coordinator. Opportunities for collaborations with the greater community with other non-profits and schools are also available.

Finally, the Health Education Associate will conduct research on collegiate bystander education, sexual violence prevention, and reducing substance abuse.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Green Dot Management (35%)

  • Assist with the development and management of timelines and budget for the implementation of the Green Dot Program.
  • Become trained as a Green Dot facilitator and conduct Green Dot workshops throughout the academic year
  • Establish a timeline for Green Dot training and manage Green Dot organization’s logistical support during training and after.
  • Collaborate with the Green Dot leadership team on implementation on campus and activities related to the evaluation of the Green Dot Program. 

Program Planning and Collaboration (25%)

  • Work closely with the Health Educator in Orientation planning and implementation. This includes the Davidson Close-Up online courses and the execution of the Community of Respect skits.
  • Attend weekly program planning with the Health Educator and other staff members of the Center for Student Health and Well-Being as well as other divisions on campus. This will include a needed focus on alcohol education across all four years.
  • Develop awareness programming and collaboration with other student groups who focus on sexual violence reduction.
  • Develop awareness programming and collaboration on other college health issues such as mental health, healthy relationships, stress management, etc.

Support for Student groups including the Health Advisers (25%)

  • Take an active role in the planning and implementation of the student volunteers, Health Advisers, initiatives
  • Cultivate relationships with groups on campus seeking health education programs such as the Greek Life Organizations and Eating Houses, the Union Board, International student groups, etc.

Research and Professional Training (15%)

  • Research the best practices and most successful initiatives in college health education.
  • Attend at least one professional conference or training in this field.

Minimum Qualifications

  • This position requires a passionate campus health enthusiast
  • Must be a recent college graduate, class of 2021 included
  • An independent and self-motivated individual
  • Collaborative

Desired Skills and Abilities

  • A desire to try new approaches to the issues
  • Previous experience in health programming on campus
  • Organized
  • Some course work or experience in public health and gender and sexuality studies
