The Betty and B. Frank Matthews II ’49 Center for Career Development (Matthews Center) has an opening for a temporary Marketing and Events Coordinator to join the team. The Matthews Center at Davidson College is a highly dynamic team committed to providing leading-edge career exploration, preparation and employment programs and services. The Matthews Center strives to be a national leader in the career development and support provided to students at a liberal arts college.  This growing and innovative team is dedicated to working collaboratively, with each other and the student body, in addition to partnering with campus and external stakeholders to provide the best-in-class support and direction for our students. The successful candidate will have a keen understanding of career development and student learning, a strong commitment to the liberal arts, and knowledge of project management, events coordination, communication or brand activation.

Marketing and Events Coordinator – The primary purpose of the role will be to provide student-centered career exploration and career management programs and services through marketing efforts. 

This position functions as a temporary and hourly addition to the Matthews Center team. Hours will be determined by marketing and event demand, but allows for great flexibility in scheduling. This position may have the option for remote or in-person work. Position expected to end in December 2021.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage email communication strategy, including weekly student/family email newsletters, industry-targeted email messages and biweekly alumni newsletters

  • Manages office social media channels; identifies, creates, schedules and publishes content

  • In collaboration with other team members, provides communication and marketing support for small- and large-scale events for the Matthews Center

  • Obtains input from departmental stakeholders to assist with the development of publications and other communication materials on Matthews Center activities and resources for internal and external audiences

  • Work with College Communications and Executive Director to ensure that web content is accurate and current

  • Build and curate new web and Handshake content based on changing needs

  • Works in close collaboration with College Communications to ensure consistency across brand identity, messaging and strategic communications positioning for the College

  • Coordinate internal resources, logistics, stakeholders and timelines for live events including, but not limited to Senior Salute, and co-coordinate events such as Shores Career Treks and Charlotte Network Nights, Law School Fair and Health Professions Fair

  • In collaboration with colleagues, this person supports and amplifies the recruiting success of external partners and heightens the on-campus recruiting experience for students and recruiters

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree required. 

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in project management, events coordination, communication or brand activation preferred

  • Proven relationship building and management skills with multiple internal and external stakeholders; ability to develop a network of supporters across multiple career disciplines and geographic locations

  • Exemplified skills in website management, digital communication tools and graphic design

  • Sensitivity to and ability to operate in a cross-cultural setting
