PRN Registered Nurse position in the Davidson College Center for Student Health and Wellbeing office. This position will provide health care and health-related advice/education to the student population. To coordinate urgent/emergent care and referrals to specialists.
Sees students at scheduled appointments and handles walk-in visits. Assess the physical and emotional condition of the student patient by obtaining a complete history of the presenting problem including chief complaint, subjective findings, objective findings and acts based on standing orders. This also includes telephone assessments and advice.
Performs laboratory procedures/tests as indicated by the student's illness. Suggests appropriate over-the-counter medication/treatments, per standing orders. Administers allergy shots, performs dressing changes, administers treatments as ordered. Assists the physician with pap smears, I&D's, eye tray, etc.
Determines a plan of care and educates students on appropriate interventions for their presenting problem. This also involves giving student appropriate written materials.
Reviews both nurse and physician chart notes. Notifies students of x-ray reports and diagnostic reports sent to outside labs with associated physician instructions. Emails/calls students for follow-up physician appointments, timed immunizations, follow-up lab, assuring connection with counselors, etc. The nurses maintain an extensive follow-up book and obtain progress reports via phone/email.
Facilitates referrals for x-rays and to specialists/hospitals and communicates follow-up.
Documents all encounters within the electronic medical record.
Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of three years nursing experience, preferably college health, urgent care, emergency room or ambulatory care (family practice or adolescent). Current NC Registered Nurse license. Prefer experience with laboratory testing and venipunctures. Current Adult CPR certification desired.
Must be available to work weekday hours.
