Davidson’s E.H. Little Library, recipient of the 2021 ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, seeks an Acquisitions & Collections Specialist to support the enhancement of our robust scholarly collections. As a member of the Collections Strategies team, the Acquisitions & Collections Specialist will oversee the procurement and processing of new materials in both physical and digital formats with opportunities to collaborate with Collections Strategies staff to rethink the connections between acquisitions, course reserves, and resource sharing services. As the primary point of contact for purchase requests, the Acquisitions & Collections Specialist will engage with faculty, staff, and students from across campus to expand access to resources and support projects that seek to refine our existing collections.

The library’s implementation of Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo Library Services Platform has provided exciting opportunities to rethink the ways in which we engage as stewards of our collections. We seek a creative and synergistic Acquisitions & Collections Specialist to reinforce existing cross-library connections and further our commitment to open and equitable access to information.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Processes all requests for one-time orders, in all formats (physical and electronic), on vendor platforms and within the Library Services Platforms; performs necessary copy cataloging work

  • Works with the Assistant Director for Finance & Operations to process invoices for orders within the Library Services Platform

  • Partners with the Collections Specialist to acquire and process course materials

  • Partners with the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator to process interlibrary loans and document delivery requests, and identify materials best suited for acquisition

  • Maintains acquisitions data for annual reporting needs and collections-based decision making and identifies ways to improve the acquisition of library materials

  • Provides support for managing the library’s physical collections

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of related work experience

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about library procurement practices

  • Ability to analyze and clearly communicate complex problems

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students

Desired (but not required) Qualifications:

  • Experience in acquisitions, cataloging, or resource sharing

  • Experience using Alma/Primo (Library Services Platform), ILLiad (interlibrary loan), or other library systems

  • Familiarity with or interest in developing skills related to project management
