The AV Systems & Technology Analyst is responsible for the faculty, staff, student and visitor experiences with Davidson College audio-visual (AV) and supporting technologies, in both classrooms and meeting spaces, with the goals of reliability, ease-of-use and effectiveness for teaching and learning. The AV Systems & Technology Analyst is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of all AV technology. Depending on complexity, s/he may do these tasks themselves or manage vendors to ensure they are done, in both cases ensuring that all technology adheres to campus AV standards. In addition, this position monitors AV systems to proactively prevent issues where possible, and works directly as well indirectly with Technology & Innovation (T&I)’s user support team to ensure rapid and high quality support with strong customer service when needed. Finally, the AV Systems & Technology Analyst will design new systems and workflows, and continuously research current trends and AV technologies. This is a highly technical position requiring specific AV systems knowledge. 

As a member of the T&I team, the AV Systems & Technology Analyst is expected to uphold the department’s mission to “drive digital transformation that advances Davidson’s primary purpose” and contribute positively to a culture of collaboration, transparency, empathy, innovation, and accountability within T&I.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and install AV solutions in low-complexity classrooms and meeting spaces.

  • Manage vendors to install and support higher-complexity AV in classrooms and meeting spaces.

  • Across all spaces, provide advanced technical troubleshooting and engineering support, including programming, configuring and setting up Crestron control equipment, controller codebase, and Fusion server components.

  • Establish standards for AV hardware, interface and codebase and ensure standards are followed.

  • Establish and follow best practices for maintenance and troubleshooting of AV equipment in classrooms and meeting spaces.

  • Act as project manager for classroom upgrades, including (but not limited to) coordinating schedules with Registrar, Infrastructure and Physical Plant.

  • Perform and/or coordinate routine maintenance of the AV technology installations including cleaning, inventory, security device checks, etc.

  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts and stock equipment necessary for routine repairs and upgrades.

  • Plan and manage the lifecycle replacement of all AV and supporting assets.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve AV issues, included but not limited to those escalated from User Success Team

  • Provide proactive and live, on-site support for high profile events (includes after hours support for an estimated 5-10 events/year); develop other resources such as student-employees to provide broader extended coverage.

  • Consult with academic departments, individual faculty and administrators to ensure that presentation technologies meet the needs for teaching and learning on campus.

  • Develop and oversee implementation of short- and long-range plans for campus AV technologies

  • Establish and maintain effective communication methods with end users and departments to thoroughly identify and resolve both simple and complex issues.

  • Develop and maintain training materials and documentation for end users, internal T&I staff, and T&I student employees, with support from the Technology Outreach Coordinator and User Success Team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience providing presentation technology support in an educational setting, or comparable large institution

  • Knowledge of Mac OS and Windows operating systems.

  • Ability to work under pressure and produce quality results.

  • Ability to install, configure/program, and troubleshoot complex AV systems. Proficiency with A/V and associated equipment, such as Crestron control systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot software systems to identify and resolve problems, restore service, and/or assure system integrity.

  • Equipment expertise in current projectors, flat panel displays, visual presenters, wireless presentation systems, interactive digital presentation, audio amplifiers and mixers, various audio and video switching devices.

  • Able to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel

  • Possesses a “can-do” attitude, self-starter and initiative with new projects

  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent internal and external customer service

 Desired Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 4+ years of experience providing classroom technology design and support in a higher education setting

  • Experience in designing and/or installing instructional technology and presentation facilities.

  • Knowledge of Crestron control systems

  • Avixa CTS and Crestron certifications.
