The Department of Dance at Davidson College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position, beginning July 1, 2022. Applicants should have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD), a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate pedagogy, and a sincere desire to teach dance in a liberal arts environment.
We seek an active dance scholar/practitioner, who will serve our current curriculum and bring new courses to the Dance Department at Davidson. The successful candidate will teach five classes a year, including courses we presently offer (Introduction to Dance Studies, Dance Repertory, and Dance Composition, for example), as well as developing new courses for our schedule. To contribute to the departmental commitment to the intersections of dance practice and theory, new courses should include dance technique at a variety of levels (field open, but preference given to diasporic and non-Western forms) and courses that draw upon the candidate’s areas of artistic and/or scholarly research (cultural studies, critical theory, performance studies, multimedia performance, etc.). We are especially interested in classes that situate dance scholarship and dance practice within clearly articulated interdisciplinary conversations. A successful candidate will also participate in production activities and mentor a diverse population of students.
