The Art Department at Davidson College invites applicants for 2, one-year Visiting Assistant Professorships of Art History, specialties open. We seek dynamic colleagues who can offer undergraduate coursework to help us bridge art historical areas while we prepare for long-term hires. We invite scholars who might teach classes in a broad range of topics, including but not limited to the following: European 18th and 19th centuries; Asian art, particularly modern and contemporary; early modern European and renaissance; or classical Western art and architecture. Currently, we are not considering specialists of modern and contemporary American or European art. We seek applicants who will have completed the requirements for their Ph.D. in Art History or a proximate field by July 1, 2022, demonstrate a strong commitment to and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching, and hold a record of promising research. Scholars whose work brings cross-cultural approaches and diverse perspectives are especially welcome. Applicants interested in contributing to Davidson’s first year writing program are encouraged. Emerging scholars who value supportive, dedicated colleagues and small classrooms with highly motivated, engaged students will find their time at Davidson rewarding. These positions carry a 2/3 teaching load, and we anticipate the opportunity for visiting assistant professors to teach an upper-level seminar in their area of specialization.
New employees will be required to submit proof of at least the first dose of a vaccine on or before their start date and proof of full vaccination no later than 5 weeks after their start date. Please see the full new hire vaccination policy here.
