The Environmental Studies department at Davidson College invites applications for a 2-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Environmental Science. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate education. We welcome a variety of approaches to environmental science including those in the fields of hydrology, climate science, ecology, urban environments, energy, air chemistry, environmental health, geochemistry, and natural hazards. Candidates who can deepen our students’ understanding of human-environment interactions are especially appreciated. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Environmental Science, Earth Science, or related discipline/interdisciplinary program by August 1, 2022. Commitment to excellent teaching to a diverse undergraduate population is a must. 

The annual course load is five courses, where lab courses count as two courses. Courses taught will include an introductory lab course in Environmental Science plus additional mid-and upper-level courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. Each senior in the department completes a mandatory capstone research project, so we seek a colleague with a desire to mentor undergraduate research.
