Senior Employee Relations Specialist

Join us as we support  a great community of employees who are working together to develop our students for lives of leadership and service. The Senior Employee Relations Specialist at Davidson College reports to the Director of HR and manages employee relations and facilitates leadership training. Specific responsibilities include helping managers expand their leadership skills, managing employee relations, welcoming new employees through New Employee Orientation, helping support diversity initiatives, running the staff performance management system, participating in campus committees and projects, and serving on the Bias Response Team.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, HR, or Organizational Psychology; and a minimum of 4 years of experience in human resources, with at least two years of experience investigating employee complaints and managing employee relations issues.

Any of the following are helpful: Masters in business, HR, or organizational psychology; JD; supervisory experience; PHR or SPHR certification; fluency in a language other than English; and/or experience in HR in a higher education setting.

• Highest degree of integrity and ability to honor confidentiality. Ability to create an appropriate environment for employees to communicate concerns freely
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proven ability to successfully train and coach leaders and managers; strong desire to help both managers and employees to improve their performance
• Excellent interpersonal skills and outstanding presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
• Demonstrated understanding of employment law and HR compliance requirements
• Strong organizational and process management skills and understanding of supervisory principles and practices
• Ability to apply knowledge of employment laws and management principles and business practices effectively to employee relations issues
• Negotiation and counseling skills
• Strong technology skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications and ability to learn new computer programs readily. Knowledge of Banner HR a plus
