The Associate Director of Family Engagement is responsible for the overall family engagement strategy, designed to provide a positive engagement experience for all caregivers of current students. This includes building strong collaborations with campus partners, developing an overall family communication strategy including social media, new family welcome events, participation in planning for Orientation and Wildcat Weekend (family weekend) and volunteer recruitment as needed. This position also leads the efforts related to the alumni admission education program held each June.
The associate director should be a strong collaborator, volunteer manager and communicator with a vision for family participation in the life of the college as well as a passion for building engaging programs. This position reports to the Director of Alumni and Family Engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive strategy that provides the families of current students the resources needed to support the holistic wellbeing of the student.
- Create, implement and manage a multi-channel communications plan that delivers needed information to the parents and caregivers of current students. Strategies may include e-newsletters, website, direct mail and event invitations.
- Develop, implement and evaluate social media strategies to target current parents with the goal of enhancing engagement and philanthropy.
- Collaborate with campus partners (Admissions, Student Life, Communications, etc.) to coordinate campus-wide communication plans for Davidson families.
- Develop virtual and in-person programming that supports the needs of current families throughout the four-year life cycle of the student experience.
- Identify segments in the current family constituency and adapt messaging to fit the particular needs of these groups (Examples include parents of first-generation students, scholar athletes, students that identify as people of color and international students)
- Participate in cross-campus planning for on-campus events that include families, such as Orientation, Wildcat Weekend (family weekend) and Commencement. Represent the needs of families in the planning process
- Collaborate with Admissions staff to invite and register alums with later high school-aged students as part of planning for Davidson’s admission education program
- Build relationships with current families and identify parents who are willing to share their experience with other Davidson families.
- Effectively communicate the important role Davidson families play by supporting the success of their student(s) and, where appropriate, serving as ambassadors for the college.
- Participate in leadership meetings for the team and advise the director as needed
Education and Certifications:
- A bachelor's degree or relevant experience or certification.
- Three or more years of experience is preferred; the ideal candidate will have experience in higher education, alumni and/or constituent relations, volunteer management, public relations, event planning, nonprofit administration and/or related fields
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently but also collaboratively in a team environment
- Goal-oriented mindset and innovative thinking
- Interpersonal skills and judgment suitable for exercising appropriate discretion and demeanor when dealing with alums, families, friends, and colleagues
- Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information
- Comfort in a Web-based software environment, proficiency in basic Microsoft programs (such as Excel and Word) and the willingness and ability to learn new software platforms .*
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and adapt to ever-changing priorities

Flexible Work Location
College Relations has a flexible work location program in line with the College’s telecommuting policy. This position is eligible for partial flexibility in work location, during non-event days, as determined with the position’s manager and reviewed regularly through our performance management processes. Candidates should expect to maintain a residence within commuting distance of the Charlotte metro area. An initial campus orientation period (of several weeks to months) worked from the office may be required. This policy is reviewed periodically.
