Davidson College is seeking an experienced Carpenter at the journeyman level to perform carpentry work in construction, repair and renovations of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions and screens from blueprints, sketches and verbal instruction. The carpenter will construct and repair cabinets, furniture, doors and windows using wood working machines and hand tools.  This position will clean and repair gutters and roofs systems along with key and locks.

Primary duties include:

Read prints, sketches, etc. to determine measurements and specifications required to construct and repair cabinets, furniture, doors, windows, office equipment and other wooden articles using wood working machines and hand tools.

Perform journeyman level carpentry work in the construction, repair and renovation of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions and screens from blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions.

Fabricate and install structural components, case work, etc. in accordance with plans and field measurements.

Maintain cleanliness of work area and shop areas; operate wood working equipment and machine saw, plane, drill or mortise lumber for doors, cabinets, shelves, molding and related fixtures.

This position is classified as essential personnel during inclement weather and school closings.

Other tasks and on call rotation as assigned.

Required qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.

Valid NC driver's license.

Experience as journeyman carpenter; must be familiar with the terminology of the trade; plywood grade marks; grades of lumber, etc. Must be experienced with all aspects of carpentry safety procedures.

Have skills in structural carpentry, cabinet and other fine work. Ability to climb and work from ladders, bucket trucks and boom lifts. Able to tolerate heights and able to stand for long periods.

The opportunity:

This is a full time benefited position working twelve months per year.

The Davidson College Physical Plant team is responsible for operation and maintenance of the College’s 650 acre campus including 107 buildings with approximately 1.8 million square feet and 62 rental properties in the town of Davidson.
