The Cafe/Vending Manager is responsible for all day-to-day operations including but not limited to: ordering, pricing, stocking, hiring, scheduling, training, supervising employees, and vending management. The Cafe Manager is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of the unit; creating marketable displays and promotions; implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures, vendor management, accounts payable, and financial management to include budgeting. The Cafe Manager is ultimately responsible for oversight of all activities related to the storefront area and dining area.

Responsibilities:

Personnel Management - Responsibilities include training, hiring, scheduling, performance management, and progressive discipline. Work with staff daily providing clear direction regarding compliance with service standards, policies, and procedures. Initiates hiring and progressive discipline process including execution of employee warnings and terminations with approval of Director. Execute documentation of employee performance, yearly evaluations, and behavioral/compliance issues in a manner acceptable to HR Department. Continually monitor staff for compliance to safety, sanitation, portion control, and security policies and holds staff accountable as needed. 

Customer Service - Promote positive college and community relations by providing excellent customer service and fostering a helpful, service-oriented environment. Monitor the level of service provided by staff members to ensure that they are providing the expected level of service with a helpful, courteous attitude. Regularly interact with customers to gain feedback to continually improve customer experience and satisfaction.

Merchandising - Create and assemble attractive and logical merchandise displays that will drive sales. Devise creative seasonal merchandising opportunities. Organize and maintain all merchandising areas in a neat, clean manner and train staff to do the same. Implement periodic promotions to draw customers and encourage repeat/regular business. Use social media to inform potential customers of promotions, new products, etc. Market new products using attractive, concise, and accurate POS signage as needed.

Financial Management - Oversee completion of daily and monthly reports as required by management. Understand and utilize the information presented in reports to maximize the profitability of the unit. Monitor cash flow through approved cash management procedures. Maintain POS system to ensure the system is functioning properly and PLU's are accurate. Prepare sales reports as requested by management and offer insight regarding ways to improve efficiency based on the information presented in these reports. Provide organized invoice and payment information package to staff assistant in a timely manner to expedite vendor payments. Operate unit within established annual budget and assist the director in future budget planning.

Purchasing - Prepare merchandise orders and submit to the vendor for delivery. Inspect all deliveries for accuracy and standard of quality. Manage inventory based on projected sales for any given period keeping special events in mind. Monitor proper stock rotation to ensure a fresh, high-quality product at all times. Along with the director, work with vendors to maintain a continuously evolving and diverse product mix. Develop an efficient ordering system and train at least one staff member in this system for the purpose of redundancy.

Register Operation - Operate register in the absence of cashier (scheduled breaks, illness, etc). Handle individual monetary transactions and provide exceptional customer service at the register. Direct customers to the location of the product within the store. Encourage impulse buying in an effort to increase sales at the register.

Qualifications:

Required:

- Associate's Degree, or 5+ years of managerial experience in food service at a higher education institution. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

- Purchasing and successfully working with vendors.

- Previous supervisory experience.

- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles/budgeting.

- Intermediate knowledge of computer applications, including Outlook, Excel, and the internet.


Preferred:

- Culinary knowledge/skill, scheduling experience; working knowledge of food service sanitation.
