Assistant Director for Regional Alumni Engagement

Position Summary:

The Office of Alumni and Family Engagement in the division of College Relations seeks applications for an Assistant Director for Regional Engagement who will devise strategies and develop opportunities to strengthen engagement and deepen an affinity for the college through regional events and programs. This position recruits, supports, and stewards alumni volunteers. The Assistant Director participates in the development of social media strategies for regional programs and uses technology to expand engagement opportunities. This position collaborates as needed with departments across campus to support both on-campus and regional events.  

The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Associate Director of Alumni and Family Engagement.  

Assistant Director Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive and inclusive regional engagement strategy to include in-person and virtual events, programs, communications and initiatives.

  • Manage a portfolio of alumni chapters, including identifying, recruiting, training and on boarding volunteers to maintain robust and sustainable leadership boards.

  • With an understanding of the volunteer pipeline, work creatively to cultivate and steward volunteers in unique and personal ways to grow their engagement and commitment to the college. Provide an exceptional volunteer experience, gathering feedback and asking for input from volunteers on a regular basis.

  • Coordination with vendors and venues with extensive management of event budgets.

  • Partner with the Senior Associate Director of Alumni and Family Engagement to develop engagement opportunities through lifelong learning and career networks. Recruit Davidson alums, families, faculty, staff, and friends to support these opportunities.

  • Participate in the creation and implementation of chapter social media strategies. Ensure that all digital platforms for alumni chapters are regularly maintained (websites, social media pages, Davidson Connect, etc.).

  • Take an active role in alumni and family engagement (AFE) team responsibilities including but not limited to budget management, program assessment, and participation in the AFE diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) initiatives. 

*Training on college software will be provided.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or at least two years of relevant experience

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written

  • Ability to work independently but also collaboratively in a team environment

  • Goal-oriented mindset and innovative thinking

  • Interpersonal skills and judgment suitable for exercising appropriate discretion and demeanor when dealing with students, alums, families, and colleagues

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information

  • Ability to use and adapt to current computer technology (Google Suite, Blackbaud CRM, etc.)

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities

  • Values the importance of equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion

  • Intermediate knowledge of and experience with social media with an understanding of its role in community-building

  • Evening and weekend work, as needed

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse constituents in this external-facing role.

  • Exhibits strong strategic planning and implementation skills and must be able to lead efforts in setting priorities and meeting goals.

  • Effective volunteer manager with the ability to recruit, train, engage and lead volunteers towards meeting shared goals.

  • Genuinely values teamwork and works best in a collaborative environment.

  • Is proactive and focused on creative problem-solving. Places a high value on learning and improving.

  • Has intermediate knowledge of and experience with social media with an understanding of its role in community-building.

Flexible Work Location

Davidson College Relations has a flexible work location program in line with the College’s telecommuting policy. This position is eligible for partial flexibility in work location, during non-event days, as determined with the position’s manager and reviewed regularly through our performance management processes. Candidates should expect to maintain a residence within commuting distance of the Charlotte metro area. An initial campus orientation period (of several weeks to months) worked from the office may be required. This policy is reviewed periodically.
