The Betty and B. Frank Matthews II ‘49 Center for Career Development (Matthews Center) has an opening for an Assistant Director for  Metrics and Assessment to join the team. The Matthews Center at Davidson College is a highly dynamic team committed to providing leading-edge career exploration, preparation and employment programs and services. The Center strives to be a national leader in the career development and support provided to students at a liberal arts college. Members of this growing and innovative team are dedicated to working collaboratively, with each other and the student body, in addition to partnering with campus and external stakeholders to provide best-in-class support and direction to our students.

As a key member of the team, the Assistant Director takes leadership on the Matthews Center’s collection and use of data, as well as the administration and maintenance of the Center’s technical systems. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with colleagues both in the Matthews Center and across campus related to data collection and management.

The Role

Data Collection & Reporting:

  • Collaborate with Matthews Center colleagues to identify and articulate the performance metrics used to assess the Center’s progress on a variety of goals, and with the leadership team to produce data visualizations that illustrate the Matthews Center’s work.

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve a central dashboard and key metrics showing the performance benchmarks established for the Matthews Center, as well as progress toward identified goals. Establish and refine data collection and reporting processes that support the identified metrics, and regularly gather and integrate data so the dashboard can be used to show progress, identify challenges, and inform decisions.

    • Identify patterns and trends within raw data.

    • Prepare monthly, semesterly and annual dashboard reports.

    • Create reports on access and equity efforts of the Matthews Center to ensure programs and services are reaching all students.

    • Assist with data reporting for populations such as scholar-athletes and international students.

    • Pull data and create reports for ad hoc data requests.

  • Oversee the annual First Destinations Survey project to collect information on the post-graduate destinations of Davidson students and prepare illustrative graphics for internal and external reporting.

  • Develop standard operating procedures for employer relationship management including normalizing the use of a CRM, utilizing existing data to identify prospective employers, track relationship status, and produce regular reports.

  • Support the Matthews Center’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts through participation in team working groups, developing and providing relevant data sets to inform decision making and committing to personal and campus-wide efforts towards diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • With direction from the Matthews Center Leadership Team, lead qualitative data collection activities including focus groups, interviews, and other research methods.

Technology Management:

  • Oversee current technology systems in use within the Matthews Center (i.e., Handshake, LACRM, 12Twenty and all subscription databases) and provide recommendations to streamline processes that result in increased efficiency and effectiveness for all system users.

    • Identify areas to improve efficiency of current technology.

    • Identify new technology needs and opportunities to increase overall office proficiency.

    • Provide counsel on choice of IT platforms for career development resources.

  • Collaborate with campus partners such as Technology & Innovation, Alumni & Family Engagement, College Relations, etc. to manage the Matthews Center’s use of shared platforms such as LinkedIn Learning, Davidson Connect/Graduway and Blackbaud.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal (faculty, staff and students) and external (company and graduate school recruiters, alumni, parents) constituents.

  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.

  • Strong initiative and ownership of projects.

  • Respects and practices confidentiality.

  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and to prioritize key tasks.

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.

  • The person in this position must be available and willing to work some evenings / weekends as required for career events and programming.
