Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance

Apply now Job no: 494452
Categories: Faculty
Department: Department of Dance

The Department of Dance at Davidson College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position, beginning July 1, 2023. Applicants should have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD), a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate pedagogy, and a sincere desire to teach dance in a liberal arts environment.

We seek an active dance scholar/practitioner, who will contribute to the departmental commitment to the intersections of dance practice and theory. The successful candidate will teach five classes a year, supporting our established curriculum (Introduction to Dance Studies, Dance Composition, and Dance Repertory) and potentially introducing new courses. The candidate must be able to teach contemporary dance technique, situating the practice within its cultural/historical context, and is encouraged to propose new courses that draw upon the candidate’s areas of artistic and/or scholarly research (cultural studies, critical theory, performance studies, multi-media making, etc.). We are especially interested in courses that situate dance scholarship and dance practice within clearly articulated interdisciplinary conversations. A successful candidate will also participate in production activities and mentor a diverse population of students.

Apply online only at https://employment.davidson.edu. To ensure full consideration, please submit complete application materials by May 8, 2023; position will remain open until filled. Requested materials include: 1) a cover letter that links the candidate’s training and experience with the details of this position, 2) a brief statement of teaching philosophy, including discussion of the candidate’s understanding of diversity and inclusion within the field, 3) a C.V., 4) names of three references willing to submit letters of recommendation. Inquiries about the position may be sent to Dr. Alison Bory (albory@davidson.edu).
