Department: Psychology

The Davidson College Psychology Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in an applied area of Psychology, with preference for Industrial-Organizational Psychology, beginning July 1, 2024. We seek a psychological scientist with training and research in IO psychology or another applied psychology area, broadly defined. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interest in and the capacity for excellence in teaching, research, and mentorship in a liberal arts context--as well as the potential to support the department’s ongoing commitment to addressing critical issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our curriculum and research. For additional information about the search process, resources within the Psychology department, college, and broader Charlotte area, see this page.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an active research program that can meaningfully incorporate undergraduate student collaborators from diverse backgrounds. Priority will be given to candidates with the demonstrated potential to publish or present findings with undergraduate co-authors and whose research can attract external funding. The regular teaching load for this position is 5 courses over 2 semesters, with 4 courses in the first year. The successful candidate will teach courses in their area of expertise (including a survey course, a research methods course, and an advanced seminar), one of the department’s required core courses in Research Design and Statistics, and may contribute to the broader curriculum through additional course offerings within the department (e.g., introductory psychology, senior capstone) and/or the College (e.g., Humanities, Writing Program). Strongest consideration will be given to candidates whose research, teaching, or other interests offer opportunities for collaboration within the department, with other departments/programs (e.g., Data Science, Economics, Gender & Sexuality Studies, Public Health), and/or with community partners.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by July 2024.

Applicants should submit the following materials: (1) cover letter; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) a statement addressing their ability to contribute to Davidson’s institutional commitment to diversity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and/or service; (4) a research statement that describes their program of research, including opportunities for meaningful student involvement; (5) a teaching statement that describes their teaching experience across both applied psychology content courses as well as statistics/research methods courses, including  evidence of their ability to create equitable learning opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds; and (6) the names and email addresses of three references who will be contacted to submit letters of recommendation when a short list is decided upon. The initial screening of candidates will be based on an evaluation of the candidates’ potential contributions to Davidson’s commitment to diversity and inclusive pedagogy as evidenced by the materials submitted. Inquiries may be sent to Dr. Jessica Good at jegood@davidson.edu.

Applicants should submit the materials at https://employment.davidson.edu . Review of applications will begin September 15, 2023, and applicants should submit by then for first consideration. The position will remain open until filled.
