The Community Experience Specialist at the Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Davidson College will be the cultivator of our community culture across all those we serve - Davidson College students, faculty, staff, alumni, Hurt Hub coworkers, and those in our entrepreneurial ecosystem. They will deeply understand and champion the voices in our community, always looking for opportunities to forge deeper connections and expand the network. They will be responsible for building awareness, recruiting, and cultivating an entrepreneurial community at the Hurt Hub that has fun doing the impossible.

They embody an entrepreneurial spirit and growth mindset, enjoying the process of testing, learning and iterating to develop exceptional experiences for everyone who engages with the Hurt Hub@Davidson. They embrace and live the Davidson Honor Code acting with integrity, transparency, and ethics. They will not be afraid to take risks and move quickly, while also having an unwavering focus on diversity, inclusion, equity, and developing a sense of belonging for all who enter the Hurt Hub. They must also be excellent communicators and project managers with an acute attention to detail. Most importantly, top candidates will be fully committed to collaborating with the Hurt Hub Leadership team and working with innovators of all ages and stages in our community as they embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

This role directly reports to the W. Spencer Mitchem Director of the Hurt Hub@Davidson.

Responsibilities:

  • Community Cultivation & Engagement:

    • Serve as the keeper of the Hurt Hub culture and community experience for all audiences we serve - Davidson College students, faculty, staff, alumni, coworking members, guests, and community visitors - and foster a sense of belonging. Represent the “voices of our guests” in all Hurt Hub leadership strategy discussions and planning.

    • Act as the glue that brings together people at a human level despite their working at different companies, in different industries, at different life stages and with different challenges.   

    • Organize and promote community-building events, workshops, networking opportunities, and informal social gatherings for all audiences we serve. 

    • Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst all our audiences in person and digitally.

  • Visitor and Guest Experience: 

    • Charismatically welcome and assist visitors and guests, providing information about the Hurt Hub and all its offerings. Get to know guests by asking thoughtful questions and tailor responses or recommendations with a guest-centric approach. Provide responses with consideration of everything we have to offer across various products and services. Ensure a positive and welcoming environment for all, including those who are not regular visitors or members to create a memorable and unique experience.

    • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our space, ensuring all users feel welcome and valued.

    • Provide directions and wayfinding assistance when asked; proactively engage those who appear to need assistance.

  • Supervise Student Community Experience Ambassadors:

    • On an annual basis (or semi-annual as needed), recruit, train, and supervise a group of student Community Experience Ambassadors to help facilitate the daily operations in the Hurt Hub and to advocate for the Hurt Hub across Davidson’s campus. 

  • Collaborate with College Departments: 

    • Collaborate with relevant college departments, such as the members of the Experiential Learning Advisory Team, the Library, Academic Affairs, and Student Life, to provide additional resources and programming opportunities at the Hurt Hub. Oversee tabling opportunities on main campus and bring the Hurt Hub to our audiences on campus where/when appropriate.  

    • Facilitate partnerships with academic departments to support research and project initiatives in collaboration with the Hurt Hub Leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience of at least 5 years.

  • Must enjoy and get energy from engaging with others, developing new relationships, and cheering on others’ success,

  • Must have a positive and can do attitude, always willing to experiment and try new things aligning to the cultural spirit of the Hurt Hub,
